Art Installations
Poul Anker Bech’s works are held in public and private collections across Denmark. Here you can find out where to see them.
Hotel Nyborg Strand
Nyborg Strand has a special collection of works by Poul Anker Bech. At its heart is the monumental triptych from 2009, consisting of *Winter Day on the Beach*, *Floating Summer*, and *The Mole Hunter*. The three oil paintings, each measuring 220 × 120 cm, were created specifically for Nyborg Strand and were the last works completed by Poul Anker Bech.
The collection also includes *After the Match* (1996), which originally belonged to former Danish national football team coach Richard Møller Nielsen. The triptych is on display in the corridor outside Halls A–B–C, while Efter kampen is on display in Salon 32
Aalborg Universitetshospital
In October 2003, Poul Anker Bech delivered three large paintings to the Oncology Department at Aalborg Hospital South. The series, collectively titled *Daydreams*, was created for the part of the department where cancer patients receive radiation therapy.
At the unveiling of the works, Ulla Astmann, then a member of the County Council and chair of the Building Committee, expressed the hope that the art might help ease difficult thoughts, if only a little, and give patients and their families room for “a daydream or two.”
With *Daydreams*, Poul Anker Bech created a series of paintings specifically for a space where art could offer a moment of reflection and a chance to turn one's attention away from illness and treatment.
North Denmark Regional Hospital, Hjørring
In the autumn of 2002, Poul Anker Bech delivered three large paintings to the Emergency and Admissions Department at Vendsyssel Hospital in Hjørring. The series, collectively titled *A Day in Vendsyssel*, was created specifically for the department’s waiting room.
The three paintings hang side by side, depicting morning, noon, and evening in Vendsyssel – seen through Poul Anker Bech’s distinctive perspective on the landscape of North Jutland and the people and elements he places within it.
The installation later became the subject of an unusual story. In May 2007, one of the three paintings was stolen from the hospital, despite being secured with steel wire. The painting has never been recovered.
To make the series complete again, Poul Anker Bech subsequently painted a replica of the stolen work for the hospital. The three paintings were then secured with additional security measures, and Dagens gang i Vendsyssel kunne igen opleves som den samlede udsmykning, den oprindeligt var tænkt som.
