Poul Anker Bech

“Poul Anker Bech is an artist who moves effortlessly between different worlds. Realism and surrealism, landscape and theatre, storytelling and mystery, humour and seriousness, illusion and painting – these are some of the contrasts that create the tension at the heart of his art.”

Finn Terman Frederiksen, writing on the occasion of the exhibition “The Lost Land” at Randers Museum of Art in 2010.

Books

Several books have been written about Poul Anker Bech’s art and life. Here you can find the latest publications

We love Poul Anker Bech

The book has been published by Kunstbygningen in Vrå in conjunction with the special exhibition of the same name. The publication has been prepared by the director of Kunstbygningen, Signe Højmark, and also includes a text contribution by Karl Bornhøft.

The focus of both the book and the exhibition is the close relationship between Poul Anker Bech and his audience. The publication maps and documents a wide range of privately owned paintings that are normally not available to the public, and the book thus serves as a valuable register of the artist’s presence in private collections.

“The Lost Land – Poul Anker Bech’s World of Imagery” is written by art historian Finn Terman Frederiksen and published by the Randers Art Museum in 2010.

The book is considered a major work about Poul Anker Bech and his life's work.

It takes its point of departure in the artist's large, monumental trilogy <em class="zhvwWe" data-sfc-cp="" data-sfc-root="ep" data-complete="true" data-processed="true" data-copy-service-computed-style="font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);">The Lost Land 1-3 and from here, undertakes an in-depth analysis of Beck’s characteristic, surrealist and often melancholic visual world.

The book was created in close and intense collaboration with Poul Anker Bech himself right up until the artist’s death in 2009.

It contains extensive documentation, biographical notes and a rich list of images of his paintings. The book is 217 pages long, bound in hardback with a dust jacket.
